After seeing it my partner promptly abandoned me and took up horse back riding...

@Joskates: "Grimacing after a bad (fill in the blank)". I've got that bit of "expression well covered! My grimacing generally occurs when I'm "in partner" with my coach and I have a brain freeze midway through a dance and momentarily forget what step(s) comes next! It doesn't help when I remind myself that at my level the dances rarely have more than 14 steps. But, "I've got to admit it's getting better, a little better all the time." (now you'll have that song stuck in your head for the rest of the day!)George Ahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15375041586503979232noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1602697467859417662.post-24101800000476360942015-04-29T08:20:01.023-04:002015-04-29T08:20:01.023-04:00Emotion and expression are so difficult in ice dan...Emotion and expression are so difficult in ice dancing (unless it's me grimacing after a bad three turn...). I've been told that it really comes from the articulation and rhythm of your ankle and knee bend. But I remember doing a silver tango pattern for a musician/skater friend who did not dance and couldn't hear the music on our ice pods, and then asking her what she thought we were doing. She guessed a waltz! Ack!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1602697467859417662.post-69054926591142819192015-04-27T00:44:55.870-04:002015-04-27T00:44:55.870-04:00Ok...I think a video of YOUR ice dancing is in ord...Ok...I think a video of YOUR ice dancing is in order!! Let's see it! I will be impressed no matter what, I look like an awkward baby deer just trying to skate a slow lap around a rink.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17329539324957562049noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1602697467859417662.post-4445555513233108882015-04-25T21:55:15.868-04:002015-04-25T21:55:15.868-04:00Ding,Ding,Ding! They skated back in the day when the ballroom ethos of ice dance was supreme. Why not look up some of their videos?Babbette Duboisehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05721808053479678691noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1602697467859417662.post-2949067073540489052015-04-25T13:21:41.068-04:002015-04-25T13:21:41.068-04:00Another personal remark to the standard ice dance ...Another personal remark to the standard ice dance music used that is totally IMHO: I find it hard to give any expression to those boring tunes. It is much easier to find a personal expression to a tune I love and is decent!TarAncalimehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08130964040071463612noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1602697467859417662.post-71905166501629626422015-04-25T13:15:41.863-04:002015-04-25T13:15:41.863-04:00Watching Guillaume Cizeron is very helpful to figu...Watching Guillaume Cizeron is very helpful to figure out what expression in ice dance means;-) Also helpful....I took lessons with an experienced dance/figure skating teacher who first coached us in the dance studio and afterwards directly on ice! But it takes time.......and good luck. Another method is to look at a video of lesson now andagain although one looks like crap ;) TarAncalimehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08130964040071463612noreply@blogger.com
